Hey guys

More dumb questions from a dumbo.

I just fit a new floor - the complete unit with sills+crossmember+heel board. Couldn't get the new boot floor to line up, checked everything, but only noticed after a day of stressing/tweaking that the holes where the subframe mounts are offset to one side? The subframe bolts up fine, but it means that the subframe and boot floor panel (also attached to the subframe) are offset to one side.. what.

I would assume there's some tolerance in the panel but it seems way off? Pics attached.

Any tips / thoughts?

Have you fully tightened those bushes?

"quite tight" - not fully torqued. It bolted up fine to the rear panel though, so I assume they're the right distance apart, just not central.

Is the floor all welded in and no access now to the other side

Can't see tightening being an issue seeing as you've measured from bracket to outside edge.. not a lot is going to change that except cutting off the captive nuts the other side, slotting the holes slightly and welding new nuts in the right place then welding up the remaining gaps. (Plus maybe adding in a decent washer if there's space with the nut to add some strength where you made the hole slightly bigger?)

Is either that or return it and get another one but the logistics on that is a bit of a pain in the arse

Or. A less decent option and the only other solution slot the holes in the boot floor and again use a decent washer, 2.5mm on each isn't huge but you'll always know the rear end is a little out of line and how that would affect handling I don't know ( possibly negligible? Possibly not)

Floor isn't welded in yet, but I dont think I am chuffed about having to re-weld captive nuts. One of the reasons I went for the complete floor was that I didn't want to dick around and get it wrong!

Totally understand that, the right answer really is the part is not fit for purpose

Probably not what you wanted to hear but possibly what you already suspected really

No, but you're right it's what I thought already.

I'll contact the shop I got it from and see what they can do. Bugger.

If the bolt holes aren't in the same place on either side the subframe will never sit right in relation to the rest of the body.

Is this a heritage floor pan?

Agree Mike, that's my issue.

And yep, it's heritage.

worth having a read of the following thread to help understand out what may (..or may not..) be needed

I would be more interested as to what the measurement is to the center line.

What you have measured means little.

but how would you measure the center point other than edge to edge of floor pan.  which will leave the holes 2.5mm off on each side

one way or another you're either having to slot boot floor holes, or affix the whole floor 2.5mm off to one side to account for holes being oddly drilled and locate the center (between holes) in the right place

I was going to ask how I'd find the center without using the sides! :)

the important centre line is the one that the subframes produce as the suspension is attached to them

how the bodywork lines up with the centrelines is secondary to the front/rear suspension alignment

your haynes manual should show details of how to check the subframe horizontal alignment
