Hi emile,

I would like to say yes it would work but from experience it can be difficult to get a proper seal around the Bolt and Tappet Chest Cover.

my advice would be to get a complete set of Cups, Rubber Bushes, and the Orange Seals for the Tappet Chest Covers. Getting them from Minispares should mean you will get

the correct size Orange Seals. The wait for delivery I am sure will be worth it and save you a load of hassle trying to stop a leak without the correct parts.

Thanks a lot Paddy, your help is very much appreciated!

I ordered new Cups, Rubber Bushes and Tappet Chest Cover Seals, and in addition, i also ordered a new set of gaskets for the cylinder head, manifold, rocker cover, carb, etc.

I have a bit more time now right before christmas, and i found a good parts-supplier in the south of Germany who had everything i need in stock (and the Tappet Chest Cover seal from Minispares).

I thought that now, when i´m already taking apart half of the engine bay to change the tappet chest cover seal, i could also just renew the cylinder head gasket. The tappet cover seal would also be a lot easier to change when the cylinder head and manifold aren´t in the way.

I already took everything apart yesterday, and so far no surprises...

But i do have questions: what exactly is this little pinhole on the back, right-hand side of the head? (red stuff around)Attached File  IMG_6867.jpeg   63.8K   0 downloads

And: are these water ports supposed to be closed? Never had issues with the engine overheating, but that does look a bis suspicious to me.

Blanking plug for the oil drilling.

yes they are closed. Helps push water to the hot end.

not all blocks are the same but the gaskets are.

Thanks!

What exactly is that for? I saw that some a-series engines have an oil pressure release valve at that location

They drill the oil galleries through the block and then plug them where they started. This one possibly intersects with the feed to the head.Steve..

Nope. Never. None. They can leak from there but they are not meant to.

"They can leak from there but they are not meant to."

They could've used that as a tagline for the Mini!
