Evening guys,
I have a mini city e A+ 998 stage 1 kit
It pulls well in 3rd and 4th and has no problems getting up to top speed.
The issue is when I decelerate to say a roundabout or junction, it struggles to pick up and I get a dull groaning sound, if I back off the throttle it will accelerate, but slowly and its almost like it's stuck in a spot until it gets out of it. After a few seconds it will be fine and fly out the other end.
I'm thinking I need to check:
Dashpot oil
Timing
Dizzy advance vacuum
Plugs
Fuelling - not sure how as I only have a colour tune for setting the idle
Any other suggestions guys?
Cheers,
Babs
Anything else I've missed?
Has it got one of those horrid K&N filters on it, the reason I ask is on the first Mini I had it had a k&n filter in it when i first got it & I had similar symptoms to yours, anyway after a little while I got fed up with it, binned the rubbish K&N & converted the whole lot back to standard filter housing & normal air filter, problem solved it run sweet as a peach afterwards, I was told at the time the uprated filter in the standard air box was very effective & without all the racket so that may be the route to go as some stage 1 kits come with them anyway

It has mate and I wholeheartedly agree with you, the sound is dreadful isn't it. I'm actually in the look out for a standard airbox. Hopefully I have one in my old man's garage somewhere.
I've heard drilling holes in the standard airbox helps top

bit harsh callling k&n rubbish. if people had car set up after fitting them by a tuner who knows what they're doing with carbs, a rarity now, then they perform well. but do give alot of noise for a small gain, whilst a drilled airbox is quieter for a very similar gain. guess it all depends on under bonnett look and personal preferance at the end of the day.
