Stripped engine and block down this far,I'm thinking its probrally worthwhile to pull the crank and pistons, skim bores etc whilst it's at this stage? 45k mile engine which ran OK.

Can you afford to do the work and if the answer is yes then carry on, however if you are on a tight budget you can still strip it down and check for wear and then if ok rebuild.

BUT as mentioned you are down this far so even if money is tight i would defo strip fully, check and measure and providing its not a daily then save the monies and do the job properly. Those 45k may have been hard miles (not saying you are thrashing / poor maint etc but did you have it from new, if not then you never know what you will find)

Give it a nice red paint job for those extra 10bhp and job done!!!

I'd suggest here Use the Force, listen to Yoda ;D

So, what I'm getting at is if you do strip it further, then either do all of it or do none of it. It's a waste of time and money to try the halfway house approach.

strip fully and check you may not need to go that far if parts check ok. if they are knackered there is no point running them anyway only to pull engine again later on. if they are ok then happy days

I will plan to strip and check as I go. Really want to ensure its in good condition before I refit it.
