I'm not sure why I can't find it now, but yesterday Swiftune posted on FB that they had produced the most power out of a SW5 cammed engine, he did admit that the engine was no holds barred regarding spec ie the best of everything, steel and forged 1380etc. The engine made a flat 100ft/lb from about 2.5K and 114 bhp, in my eyes that's pretty dammed impressive.

it is for a mini engine, how many hours do they last? or is it minutes!

I’ve had loads of cams, got sw5 in my 1312 and it’d have my 286’d 1380 off the lights. Nearly 95lbft from 2k flat across the range. . Love swiftune r&d.

Impressive numbers. More than my SW8-powered 1330 makes, and all the more reassurance for my recently purchased SW5 destined for my SPI rebuild!

All well and good, but the mental Kiwis pushing 428hp from a 998 (1071) is going to be one of the most interesting things to see this year!

Thing is, you give Nick that budget and we know he’s smash it.

Here’s the video. They had a decent budget and a unique brief and gave a good result

I’d think it’d be slightly more maintenance sensitive than a usual road engine due to the race parts used, but it should have a longer service life than a full on race engine

There you go, the readout straight from the Swiftune website, you've got to admire the companies still working and improving the old 5 porter after all these years. I think I'll just sell off all my 16V conversion parts and use the money to buy all the good guy parts for something similar, apart for a few bhp at the top end which I would use perhaps 5% of the time, this 5 porter is destroying a LT cammed BMW headed 1380 in every department.

I presume some sort of supercharging is involved then, but bloody impressive all the same.

I find it amazing that people can get so much power out of the A-Series, when I was last heavily into minis (early 2000's) 100BHP was an amazing figure to achieve an always involved some form of forced induction.

I'm not against engine swaps and if I wanted to get big power out of a mini I would probably look at doing it that way as its probably cheaper and ultimately probably would last longer as the engines swaps are less stressed but its great that people have kept on developing the A-Series to get to where they are today.

The man runs a very successful business and competes in some elite races, I doubt budget is an issue, it’s a matter of what is interesting and valuable. Swifttune would gain nothing from building a turbo engine as there’s nowhere to race it.

Really it’s as posted above, for an engine that should really have been consigned to history, it’s amazing that it’s still being developed all around the world in so many different ways.
