Hello everyone,

I would like to start by saying this is my first forum post, and I apologize in advance should I make any mistakes.

I own a 1970 MK3 850cc Mini which was restored quite some time ago. During the restoration, the original boot badges were never found, and now after some time searching online and trying different replacement badges I still have not found one that fits. A link to a photo of the boot and the rest of the car is attached below for context.

The bottom badge is likely from the original car, with the 3 hole pattern. However, the top badge with two holes spaced exactly 60mm from each other is the one which has caused some mystery for me. I have searched for many photos of similar cars from the same year as mine and failed to find one with the two badge layout, that would have a badge which would make sense to be on my car.

Does anyone have any ideas/photos as to what badge would be suitable and also as to where I could find one?

Many thanks

I don't think it would be the automatic badge as it has always been a remote change manual gearbox.

I'm pretty certain as well that it is the original boot and hasn't been swapped out at some point.

The badge with the Leyland "plug hole" came in a bit later, but it would have been supplied as a replacement - they're only push fit, so not difficult to lose or steal. The other badge could have been an Austin or Morris nameplate. I don't recall any, but Somerford lists them as export only.

Have you found http://www.minipassi...s/brochures.htm ? There might be a piccy somewhere in that collection.

I think you will find this small 'Austin' boot badge was fitted above the Mk3 Mini badge for some export markets.

The Mini in above photo has Hungarian registration/licence plates.

Yes! I think that should be the one. Considering my car was an exported model, it makes sense that the small 'Austin/Morris' badge would be on the car.

Unfortunately it seems that it is unavailable everywhere I look, but hopefully I can find one on Ebay at some point... As for the 850 badge, I have seen quite a few used ones on the UK Ebay site so it should not be an issue getting a hold of one.

Thank you all very much for the responses, I really appreciate the help and the valuable input. I'm really pleased that I can finally have the car fully period correct  :D

You could maybe contact 'Mini Club Hungary' in links below for help with finding an 'Austin' export badge as shown in the photo above:-

Just noticed this Mini 1000 Mk3 on the 'Mini Club Hungary' Facebook page has a small 'Morris' badge on the bootlid.

I'm pretty sure mine should be exactly like that except it would have 850 instead of 1000.

I checked with my local club and the guy I knew said I'd have a small chance of finding one if I went to some scrap warehouses or on Ebay. I guess the 'Morris' badges were pretty rare which is why they must've stolen it when the car was rotting in a field prior to the restoration. Everywhere I've seen on the internet they've sold out except for one vendor in Japan, but the cost is around 50GBP and I wouldn't like to know how much the shipping and import fees would be in my country.

I'll make an inquiry to the Hungarian Mini Club to see if anyone would have any spares on there, I think that would be a more viable option than importing it from Japan.

Don't think it's off a Mini but it's pretty close - https://www.ebay.co....:Bk9SR9zF_ouxYw

Also,https://www.ebay.co....:Bk9SR9rF_ouxYw

What are the chances people are bidding for a particular badge & you could get most of your money back selling on the rest???

This one does look right, if a little tatty. You maybe could get a new insert printed or laser engraved, even personalised.
