So the metalwork side of my resto is around 2 months from finishing. I've not decided what arches I want yet but should I get them and trial fit them before the shell goes for paint? Which ever I chose, there probably going to be a different colour to the shell so they'll be painted at a different time.

From my personal experience, try them on now. Just to see where you want the holes (or rivnuts for that matter) and see where there might be some issues. Drilling the shell after paint can be a nervous moment, better do it now when you can still fix any misdrilling if it might happen.

So my next question is, are the copy sportpack arches any good compared to originals seeing as there a lot cheaper?

Arch fitment is crucial, set your ride height and wheel choice / offset before drilling. Avoid the rubber sportspack arches, I've had good experience with the fibreglass ones in the past.

I’ve a wee question related to this, I’d prefer not to have huge wide arches on mine when the time comes. Maybe group 2 kind of thing, I’m going to run 10s but the engine should have some poke to it, so wondering what width wheel  I can use ? I’m guessing there is a payoff in grip?  The car is for fun and occasional track use.

Person I don't like wheel-arch extension.
I run the 4.5 x 10" Minilites with the standard 'S' offset and arch extensions are not necessary. Tyres are 165/70x10.
Brakes are standard Cooper S.

I much prefer a mini on 10 inch wheels with no arches
