Having trouble fitting a drum over new pads on the rear. The rear adjuster is loose.
The handbrake is off, but noticed that the handbrake 90 degree pivot point in the drum is solid. Should the two bits of metal pivot slightly at the point?

The metal part is called the handbrake lever set.

Yes.

normally the problem is the shoes are not central. Get the handbrake lever moving and back the adjuster right off.

Try getting g under the car and make sure the handbrake cable is loose enough to spring back to thenoff position. Sometimes takes a wiggle of the brake quadrent( 90 degree bend with the handbrake cable running through it located on radius arm)

Brake SHOES need to be central. Also remember the brake adjuster is on a square so could also be mid turn..

May also need the lever adjustment tweaked to get the space for new shoes. Were the old ones really bad?

If all else fails double-check you have the right drums. I have been sent the wrong ones before (Moss Europe were then very good about replacing them).

Check also you are not fitting front shoes to the rear, as I done once...
