you don't use any sort of 'glue' when fitting them... especially the rocker cover which you will have to remove to adjust tappets etc...

yep it's not needed if you install the gaskets correctly and torque trhe bolts to the right settings.

I've seen some people put a smear of superglue on the rocker gasket to the rocker cover to hold it in shape,... i've never had to do that though.

That gasket paste is poo. Should always use a correct gasket.

i sometimes stick the rocker gasket to the cover, if i have trouble in getting it to stay in place when re-fitting the cover. i've known a friend to use too much of that stuff and block his oil pickup!

there shouldn't be an need for it if you clean the surfaces the gasket sits on properly. And yes... always use a good quality 'rubberised' cork gasket. plain cork is ok but fatigues faster, the proper one has a rubber compound in it too,.. creating a tighter, more secure seal and lasting longer before it needs tightening down a bit lol.

i think the Haynes manual tells you to do it a strange way, in mini-world (i think) it said put the car in gear, jack up the passenger side front wheel and turn the wheel by hand to turn the engine. i always found this to be a good way to do it.

also a tip: when you buy the gasket from "whoever" they tend to hang it on a hook and it will close together in the middle making it a pain to fit (i guess this is why you want to use the glue).
it's best to buy the gasket at least a month before you need it and store it around a box or container (clean bottle of oil works well) to reform it into it's proper shape. it makes thing a lot easier.

The gaskets dont need any glue, just buy good quality ones and they will be fine.

I’ve always used a few blobs of superglue to hold the rocker cover gasket in place as it can be a bit tedious try to lower the rocker cover on while trying to keep the gasket in place.

As for the how 2 guide on adjusting the tappets, well I know I’ve posted one up a few times (goes off searching for it, back in a bit.)

*Edit*

Found it, at last…

i did put 6 tiny dots of glue around the rocker cover and use a good quality gasket and youl be able to use it 4-6 times (if its not mangled) when it comes o removing the gasket pull it off around rocker cover and use light abrasive paper to make it level surface for next gasket
