Hi All,

 

Long term reader first time poster! I am looking for some help on what panels I might need for my 2000 Mini Cooper MPI. Basically the sills are rotten through as is the front sections of the floor (drivers foot well etc) I have looked on mini spares / mini sport etc but finding it hard to determine exactly what I need as there are inner and outer sill panels etc. Do you just order both inner and outer sections along with the floor pieces or are you better off to buy the half floor panel with sill? Any help would be appreciated.

Post up some pictures of the rust you have.

 

Depending on how bad things are i would look at M Machines inner sill to first flute combined with their outer sill. Quite a big job but very doable. 

 

Half floors are another option BUT if they are that bad you may want to consider a full floor instead.

 

But as i mentioned, post up some pictures and we can make a better call as to what you may need.

Looking at that, I would dry it all off first. Then use a twisted wire cup to remove the paint to see the true extent of what is going on.

That does not need half floors

It’s difficult to tell completely from the photographs but it looks like you still have the bitumen sound deadening material over the complete floor. Start by chipping this away (with a chisel) then clean any remaining bitumen off with white spirit, only then will you be able to see the extent of the corrosion.

This is the floor of my ‘98 with the rot cut out, nothing like as bad as I thought it was going to be and I suspect yours may be similar.

I would suggest bracing the door frames before cutting the lower door kick plate. Saves the door gap opening/closing and then you weld it to a different size...

Be methodical and measure, measure, measure...... always the key..

This work was actually being done by a very well respected Mini specialist who told me that for the amount of metal being removed it wouldn't need bracing. If I'd been doing it myself I'd have definitely braced it!
