Hi people, returning member from a many year hiatus, hope everyone is doing well.

I have a very tired but loved non running (10+ years) Mini that I have major plans for, uneconomical restomod, two decade dream built type thing. I want to trailer the car to a company and present a full build list, ask for / listen to advice, pay my money and drive away with my dream Mini in X months. Location is my main issue and I know all the build details are the most important thing but for me it's finding a trustworthy garage, someone ready to listen to me and execute what I need. I'm going to spend stupid dead money on a non return investment so its really personal and the details count.

Has anyone done this type of stupid build and would you recommend anyone in North Wales or nearby that you trust to execute this?

I'm aiming for bare metal restoration, fast road / light race but driveable. Staying A Series but supercharged or turbo option, most of the money is on the engine and drive train. Basic interior, fat body and safety where possible. The rest is still up for grabs.

Cheers

Separating engine work from body work might be an option. Some but not all specialise in both. Try Adrian at AB Garage near Hawarden for engine work and Steve at Southside Classic and Custom for bodywork. Both nice guys and happy to discuss options.

I would also say separate body and block...

Engine tuning is such a specialist area that you are best getting these done by different people in my opinion.

The best mechanical folks have a dislike for endless rubbing down a panel.
Whereas the best panel beaters/sprayers i have found make the worst mechanics............

Would also add in someone to do the interior but if your not to fussed then one less thing to deal with.

Safety where possibly...... eh... it is a mini...1959 type safety..... mmmmmmmm good luck... rover failed to add that element...much the the classic minis detriment..

Do you have a cost figure in mind? We have two Minis in the process of rebuild so I outsourced the work on one just to make some progress and avoid me becoming a Car SOS candidate.

Panels, welding and paint were as much as I could justify, I did the strip down and I’m putting it all back together myself, including the engine rebuild. The Ennion Workshop in Peckforton did the panel work but after years of threatening to retire I think Tony actually is.

I think The Mini Restoration Compamy in St.Helens offer a drive-in-drive-out service but you’d need to call them, last time I spoke to them they were booked up 18 months ahead.

Where are you in North Wales? I used to live in Kinnerton but we moved east of Chester 12 months ago … I found a house with a decent garage and workshop! 🤣
