Are all dipsticks the same, ie a series as apposed to a plus? 1275 engine. Cheers

Not sure but I have a spare aftermarket dipstick from my 1275GT if you need one that fits.

Thanks, I've got a shiny aftermarket one, it isn't good for reading the oil level. Never got the original back after getting the engine done

Grind/file a flat on your shiny one - works a bit better then.

A and A+ dipsticks aren't quite the same as the A+ had the seal on that the A didn't.  Although fundamentally they are calibrated the same from their stop point to the marks.

A series have a tube that goes below the oil level. A+ fits directly in the block, hence the seal to try & stop blow-by.

Interesting you should say that. What if you change the oil, put 5 litres in and the level is not showing on the dipstick....

I had the same problem with my stainless dipstick, even after grinding, filing and milling a flat on it, So I ended up milling little pockets like modern dipsticks as in my photo, the text isn't a requirement for it to work...
