Whats the going rate for a complete salveged unmolested 1275 engine these days?

As in un restored, dirty, unknown condition, pulled from a scrapped car.

I've been offered a '12H740-xxxxxx' engine but no idea what to offer for it.

I have seen so many different prices for engines in this conditon its mad.

Me i would offer £500 because its a total toss of the coin what it will be like internally.

Also depends on what your getting.
Head, Carb, dizzy, starter, clutch, all casings, gearbox, alternator etc..

Do not jump in check bores. Check compression if you can.

Pay what you are both happy with I suppose.

I have an A Series engine, no gearbox forsale near Southampton.  It is stripped for inspection and is all standard and in good condition.  Comes with all the bits and pieces, timing gear, clutch housing etc.  I have offered it for £600 ono and had a few derisory offers (£400 was the best).  I think it is worth the £600 but obviously people will offer a lower price if they can.  Condition is key.  It is better, in my opinion, to rebuild the engine properly rather that go through the cost of fitting an unknown engine with possibly less a than good result.  I have seen complete engines at shows for more, but unknown condition.

I don't think you will get alot less than £600.00 now a days for an A+ unit and personally I would always expect to rebuild it to some extent, all the engines are just too old. There are a few on the bay for £750.00 OBO and one taking bids which is in the sixes. If you beak the unit down to component parts you can see where the price comes from, HIF44 £100.00+ , heads £150.00 minimum etc etc.
