Hello,

Engine nearly ready to go back in the car.

1963 Mini have the original gearbox refitted with a later 998 A+ engine.

The origianl engine was a 63 so had the very early 1 3/8" crank, rather than the 1.5" crank, so i have already swapped to the primary gear and its all gone together well with the clutch housing and good floats too.

I didnt think about the flywheel! I have the original pressure plate and spring type flywheel. However it of course is for 1 3/8" cranks not the 1.5".

Whats the best way forward? Ideally i would keep as much original stuff as possible - can i try and find a late 60s spring type flywheel? Or a lightweight option? Or am i better going to a diaphragm type?

Many thanks in advance!

I'd suggest going to a later flywheel that takes the diaphragm spring. It'll save you loads of agony down the track and it's not something external that's seen.

Yep seems to be the way forward.

Do i need another back plate or are they all the same/interchangeable?

Shame that you have only just thought about the flywheel,as it really ought to be balanced with the crank.

Also think about primary gears on the crank...

It's been a long time for me here, but I think that'll interchange.
