Took my 99mpi out this morning, clutch was biting at the very bottom, and gear selection was a problem. After 5 minutes drive I couldn't get it in any gear when the engine was running,as soon as I switched off the engine gear selection was smooth,no problem.Im thinking its a clutch issue because the gearbox was rebuilt 2000 miles ago Help!

What was it like the previous time you took it out?  and how long ago?

Check the clutch fluid level and that there's no air in the system, first.

Check the deflection of the clutch release lever.

Check for fluid leaks from the slave and master cylinder.

Try pumping the clutch to see if that gets you anywhere.

My chief suspect would, probably, be the master cylinder, but eliminate everything else, first.
