Hi all, any ideas what may cause this staining on the first photo? It’s to the left of the air filter inlet. Also, is rust on the engine block as shown on the second photo common?

Thanks in advance. Attached File  IMG_2274.jpeg   41.44K   4 downloadsAttached File  IMG_2276.jpeg   61.68K   3 downloads

First pic is alloy corrosion. Second pic is normal is there's no paint on it. Yours seems to have been stripped bare!

Yes there doesn’t appear to be any paint on the engine block. The car is new to me so I don’t know the background but does seem odd that the paint has all disintegrated

Not odd considering how old it might be.
