I can see what looks like a small ding on the face of that and it also looks to be an el-cheapo non-genuine bearing or at least the outer ring is.

So, is what you are showing us here that there's little or no interference fit between the ring and the housing ?

 

Since you have the ring out, out of curiosity, does it fit over the inner part of the bearing ?

Well it’s good ole mini spares genuine part, or at least that is what they sold me - seems to be a common theme bad parts being delivered - anywho, yes it does fit over the inner bearing. As for the housing I can drop right into the section but what you see is as far as it goes!!

It does appear that Mini Spares are still selling the genuine RHP bearings, however, those that I have bought have been in a RHP box and have a lead in taper on the ID of the outer ring to aid with assembly. The outer ring should be a substantial interference fit in the housing. I have a soft dolly that I use and then press them in.

Perhaps remove the dowels from the gearbox case (I could see one was chewed up anyway) and try to fit it again, without the Idler gear to start with.

The Dowels are there to precision align the housing to the gearbox. They are not matched to any gearbox case and are interchangeable. I have found however, those made from around 1982-ish are not very well aligned at all, I've only had one in the past 15 or so years now that was spot on.

Apologies if this sounds a bit patronising, but you have removed the old outer race? Where that’s sat it looks like it’s sat on the clip and (although hard to be sure on that photo) it looks like the bores are the same size.

The retaining clip for it also appears missing or have you already removed it ?

There are extractor tools for pulling these. If you don't want to spend the money for one bearing, then you can carefully grind groves in 2 places in it with something like a Dremel. Don't grind all the way through, just make it wafer thin and break that last bit through. Don't heat it either as it will likely distort the case, the factory specifically warn against doing that.

Spidey, thx man as I saw it move slightly with a screw driver wedged underneath but agree Dremel is the way to go!! Yes I removed clip as per this view

All good gentlemen as busy this week and cut a small section out with dremel, old ring popped out, used vasiline and tapped it right back and slapped on retaining ring - thx again guys as always!!
