I have a 1987 Rover 1275 with the one piece shroud attached to the radiator on the engine side.

There is no shroud attached to the inner gaurd, like the earler pre 70's minis.

Is there supposed to be anything bewteen the gaurd and radiator on the Rover, like a rubber strip or foam?

Or is it just a big gap to make it easy to get the radiatir out?

Thanks

..it's just a big gap that makes getting the radiator out much easier compared to the earlier cars, but does make cooling less efficient

I'm not sure about UK sold ones but in Japan they did have something. My one had the remains of some kind of adhesive foam thing on the body. Classic minis Japan sell a rubber replacement: https://classicminis...adiator-shroud/ now I notice that they say they originally had sponge strips, that would be what the remains were on mine (1986 Japan)

This car also had the remains of some kind of foam attached to the inner gaurd.  I thought it was some kind of home handyman job, but sounds like it may be original.  The rubber shroud from Classic Minis Japan looks the goods.

My 1990 Mini has something very similar to the link to Classic Minis Japan - photo attached that I just took.

Confirming - this is the original works part and as it should be.

Same on my 1991 Carb Cooper - can be a struggle to fit when it has shrunk a little, but works well.

Silicon spray oil may work to revive it a little if it looks slightly perished, but for a 30+ years part they tend to age surprisingly well.

Best regards,
Jan
