My understanding is that the thermostat does not keep your engine cool,in fact it does the opposite,it keeps it hot or rather holds it at the correct temperature to operate properly.It does not keep it cool.Just my understanding though.Steve..

I'm in Australia. This morning it was zero and we get even cooler than that, but not by a lot and usually, not for long. Summer regularly hits 40 and 50 C is not out of the question.

I just run an 82 all year round. There is no point for a road car running anything cooler at any time of year.
