All fair points - however are not the bump stops there stop getting to that point - mine definitely show signs of being in action.

It depends on where you have set your right height. If it's set low, then you, the arms will contact the Bump Stops, however at the other end of the spectrum, as the suspension extension increase, the spring will become loose, they usually dislodge and don't seat properly, rear springs usually fall out.

Here's a graph showing the spring rates between a stock rubber cone and a blue coil spring. It shows not just rates, but travel available;-

In use, the rubber cone goes through 42 mm of compression, 9 mm of that is in pre-loading, You can see no mater how you want to paint it, the coil spring falls well short at 20 mm.

The Graph also highlights another misconception here that most people report the their Mini rides so much softer on Coils, the fact is they do ride harder, what they are feeling is a very under-dampened ride. The rubber cones have an inbuilt natural damping quality, that the coils don't have. To properly use a coil they need WAY bigger shocks, but while that may bring back the damping lost, it doesn't compensate for the lack of travel.
