Can anyone tell me the correct black to use on the subframes?
Did the factory paint them gloss black or was it a semi-gloss?
thanks in advance

Paint the front one white. When you drop anything in the engine compartment, it makes it so much easier to see things.
For the same reason, I paint the rear subframe a sandy mud colour.

Are you going to use the car in concours events?? if not a Gloss Black will do the job nicely.
However its entirely up to you. Just to add some info, i converted an new old stock OE Wet rear subfame to dry for my Clubby and the paint on that was not gloss so maybe a semi gloss. Bear in mind though it was old and not stored in the best of conditions. Its now powder coated dark blue along with the front subframe.

I think it will be quite difficult to replicate the factory finnish, it must have been quite an art to put so little paint onto a surface and still manage to give it a semi gloss sheen.

The semi gloss was probably due to the rust starting to come through.
