Expansion Tank Hissing. Mpi Mini

I came home and I could hear hissing comeing from expansion tank, any ideas... rad Flush/replace cap/thermostat?

Probably a bad cap.

How far have you filled the expansion tank? It should never be at max from cold. About 10mm below is ideal. The cap can also a point of failure.

The header tanks are prone to springing leaks.

I think I pop to minispares tomorrow pick up a preasure cap....

has anyone bought an alloy header tank? There a bit expensive but only 30 quid more than the OEM tank... but if a 6 quid cap does the trick then a add it to santas list

Yep! But I designed my own and had it fabricated. It takes up less room.

The blue coolant cap from the Bmw Mini is reputed to be the best, I fitted one after problems with a Rover one.
