Hi didn't really know where to put this and having searched the forum no one had any definite ideas so thought I would post how we reset our immobiliser.
Ours is a 1996 equinox and since we got it the battery has been slowly dying, at the weekend it wouldn't even turn over. So having spare cars floating round 'borrowed' the new heavy duty one from our triumph vitesse. Turned out needed a new earth strap as well. Connected it all up, put key in pressed the unarm button and nothing!!
After searching forum and internet, not having a handbook, finally decided to try a couple of the suggestions. The one which worked was ignition off and press the unarm button 3 times and something clicked behind the dash. Sure enough car started first time and much quicker than before.

Well I hope this may help someone else who gets stuck late on a Saturday night when everywhere is shut!! :-

great news buddy, i take it the equinox is an SPI?

This should be made a sticky! or a 'how to guide'. There seemed to be a little spurt of imobilisers breaking down recently.

Yes it's an spi.
I noticed about the immobilisers when looking earlier which is why I searched for an answer when ours failed (or not depending on how you look at it). Not having a handbook doesn't help either. Hope this helps someone anyway.

Maybe there should be a 'how to' or something like it for solutions to problems.

The plain button on the keyfob as in turn alarm off not the one with a padlock on ie alarm on.
Oh and I am female by the way hubby is Chris and the +3 are daughters.

i don't have a keyfob. Just a straight ignition key. Didn't even know i had an alarm til the battery went flat. Now I do and I can't turn it off. :errr:

Looperboy, I dont think you have an immobiliser installed, if it is it isnt working as you can start the car (cant you ?).

no, i can't start the car. When the battery is live the horn blasts and the car is immobilised. I didn't realise it was immobilised before, cause I just disconnected as soon as the horn started blasting.
