Hey guys and gals,

Sorry, this doesn't really belong in this section and it will duly be moved.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions how to check out if an oversea company is legit ?

I'm looking at buying some kit from an Indonesia company, it does appear legit but I'd like to be sure they are the real deal.

Google doesn't bring up anything about them, which I don't read too much in to as Google doesn't favour Indonesia (and many other countries).

Cheers in advance,

Chris

I put Indonesian Register of Companies into google  and there came up a Companies House Indonesia site.

Dont know if this is any help but worth a look maybe.

Where is this company advertising?

If you set google to results from Indonesia you might get more relevant results.

I have found and done that, but I * think * I'm loosing something in translation on that front. I have put in a request via what I am guessing is an Indonesian Gov web page, but so far, received nothing back, almost as though the request hasn't been received.

I found them through an on-line trade site, Used-line who I think are based in the US.

This is the company's web page;-     https://voltaelectricalequipment.com/

Searching for 'volta' brings up quite a few stray hits as it appears a common-ish Indonesia term to use in a business name. I have done as you've suggested and tried Google Indonesia, so far, I have gotten one additional lead but I'm still unsure here.

When I look at company details I also check out their website registration information.

This company says they started in 2009 but the website was only registered in 2023. (There could be genuine reasons)

https://who.is/whois...alequipment.com

I also check the scam reviews;

https://www.scamadvi...alequipment.com

Check some of the links on the website.

They have a linkedin link which doesn't work

Check if any of the manufacturers items they sell have them listed as a distributor.

Look for is the business address, but I can't find one on this site, not even for a return address, although thats not that unusual.

If there is an address I'll look on google maps or earth and go on street view if available.

None of these are conclusive one way or another but may offer some insight.

I just did an image search for this product on their website.

https://voltaelectri...r-Analyzer.html

This popped up, and they have many more photos of the product and not just 2

Many thanks here mate.

I did try a google map search as you have suggested, (they have an address on their proforma invoice) and sadly, with what you've found on ebay, this is all starting to look like it's too good to be true.

No problem Spider.

They may well be legit but I wouldn't trust them from what I found without conclusive proof.

You could do an image search for the product you were after and see if it exists elsewhere to buy.

That's a scam. Notice how all the listings have different backgrounds. It's because they are all stolen from different sellers on eBay. I've seen scam sites like this before.

The backgrounds are always a good way to spot scams.

If they're a biggish company I'd expect them to have a static IP. They might also have some registered trade marks or tradenames.

https://www.dgip.go.id/

Any names you can look up on Linkdin, that would be one sophisticated scammer if they went to that much effort! Though a scammer could impersonate a legit business.

You could research their IBAN or BIC codes if that's how you'll be paying. Again, it could just prove the bank's legit, not the account .

High end kit at attractive prices is always a lure but in this case I think it may well be a scam.

The difficulty in geeting the provenance of this company may well be just an Indonesian thing, I dont know, but the old saying "it is too good to be true" then it is too good to be true.

Keep your money in your pocket.
