Fit the correct pump. A regulator shouldn't be used.

These SU pumps are not as readily available in South Africa. There's one place I know of that can bring it in on backorder but it'll cost 4 times what a max 3.6 psi pump costs.

So I'm willing to try it. Especially considering others have used these huco pumps with good success.

As an option to the SU Pump, I've found these an excellent Pump;-

This is very good advice.

Keep in mind, with fuel starvation, if it occurs at the right (or wrong !) engine load conditions, the engine will still run but be down on power from leaning out. If sustained for a period it can melt pistons, burn valves, blow head gaskets and crack your cylinder head. It doesn't take long - 30 seconds to a couple of minutes.

That alternative to the SU looks a bit like the Huco.

I'll test the huco that pushes 0.25 bar at the pump and see if it works. It's been tried and used with success by some guys here. It's got a max pressure 0.6psi more than the SU so let's see

By correct pump I just mean one with the correct pressure. The SU pumps are expensive and there's many alternatives.

Alternatives are unfortunately very limited here... and what I'm also finding is that some places have incorrect pictures and part numbers and spec on their websites which makes it more challenging. One site has a picture of the Hardi 13312V rated at 0.15bar which should be around 2.2psi but they have it as 2.2bar.. probably a typo but their part number is something else.

This one on minisport website is sold as a SU replacement but up to 4psi:

Based on that, the Huco 3.6psi pump I have is within that range so technically should be fine.

While I have not tried them, the pump from Mini Sport AU does receive good praise locally.

I fitted the Huco 443000 pump and so far seems fine. It filled the float bowls about halfway and then stopped running, which I think is how the SU pump operates?

I haven't started the car because I first need to change the oil and oil filter after discovering petrol in the oil.

I'll do that later today and start it up to see if the bowls stay half full.
