not sure if this is related but would still be a useful feature either way

when I've been away a few days, then I come back there's a load of unread things in the latest, so I flick through each one briefly (reading some as I go) just clear them away and everything shows as read

is that constant loading of pages causing the website to overload or think it's being ddos'd?

what it needs is a button to 'mark all as read'

You can mark each section as “read” by clicking the logo next to the section name (on the desktop it looks like two messages and some quotation marks, on the mobile version just a single message bubble)

Have patience people.

Specialist forums like these are now very rare, very special and take lots of maintenance and fine tuning to run smoothly.

Over the years I've been using this forum, its generally been very reliable and I'm happy to contribute in my small way via my membership to the running costs in the hope that it'll remain so for many years to come.

If the server's down just make a cuppa and think about all the extra content there'll be when it's back online. First world problem.

So a little update. i have been chatting to Deathrow about the outages and our good friends the Bots have been back in force, close on 1500 of the buggers in a sitting, so they are taking up bandwidth or whatever.

However he has gone on to msg the Host as well to see why things are falling over the way they are. The system just cannot take that many concurrent users hence why we are suffering the way we are.

All i can say is please bear with us and hopefully we will find some sort of deterrent or a means to lessen the impact. The joys of the world we live in.

There’s currently +2200 “guest users” on the forum

You might be able to block/restrict certain countries access, or apply a timeout for guest users.

I also am an admin of an online forum and solved a very similar problem on mine. It involves the robots file and it fully resolved the issue for me. I've sent you a personal message with how my file is setup.
