Hi ive just brought a 1275gt speedo fuel and revcounter from ebay to replace my 2clock set up in my mini.

My mini is a 1275spi sprite from 1995 with 12" wheels on it.

Will i need to alter wiring to fit these clocks or will they be straight swap apart from revcounter. will they need recalibrating and can anything be done about millage.

sorry bout million questions

thanks Lee

http://www.theminifo...showtopic=34182

there is another type of clocks that only has 1 spade terminal and 1 bullet terminal!! this will go straight in your car as the black/white and orange/green wires are already in your loom!!

The easiest way to convert to a 3 clock set-up from 2 clock, is firstly unbolt and remove the 2 clock dials and cage completely, now carefully remove the Speedo from your old clocks and refit into you new 3 clock set. This now means the Speedo works and reads correctly (providing it did before) and the mileage is also correct.

Now it’s just a case of bolting in the new 3 clock cadge to the bulkhead and plugging the clocks up and bolting them to the cadge.

As for wiring up the rev counter, there should all ready be two spare wires (regardless of weather or not it had a rev counter fitted to start off with) tucked behind the clocks with the relevant connectors already present.

Another issue is you will need to change the speedo cable from a nippon variant to the smiths one..

I also have a sneaky feeling that the multi plug on the back is different, as yours is a SPI, or maybe that's just MPI's... dunno try not to get involved with voodoo injection minis :errr:

but if you use the old spedo from the 2 clock set up you don't need to change the cable as the corect one is already fitted.

Also the gt clocks read upto 120mph which would mean the spedo drive in the gear box would be alsobe wrong as well.

but if you put the speedo in the GT clocks then it'd either read wrong speed using the GT dial ( ie original sweep being 0-90 mph and the GT being 0-120 ) or would look odd with the 90's nippon dial, next to the 70's GT dial..

As for the speedo reading right, that'll all depend on the FD which is currently in the car. GT clocks are designed for 12" wheels running a 3.4 FD, or if you have the realy early ones, 10" wheels running a 3.4 or 3.6 FD

The only way to find out is to work out the TPM of both speedo mechanism and then make the adjustment in the gearbox drive.

cheers for that andi think it would look odd if i had two nippon gauges and 1 smiths rev counter. are you sure that there will be two wires already for revcounter on my car. bonus if they are. i will post pic of mine tomoz as there wasnt one on that link to make sure mine is the same.

thanks again lee

you make the wiring yourself!! not very hard to do! show us a pic of the back of the rev counter and i'll tell you where the wires go as there are 2 types or rev counter!!

That is an old set, but the wire from the -ve side of the coil needs to be taken through the tacho and then back to the dizzy, the wire which is in the loom is for the later signal type tacho's, this is a loop one.

so that means that i have a set of clocks for 10inch wheels then. Should i remove the old wire or just leave it in the car when i make the new ones. and by the look of the back of my new clocks there is the big socket like thing is this for some kind of connection block or something else. thanks Lee

thats where the main wiring harness connects to the clocks!! if u already had 2 clocks then this will already be in the loom, if u had a centre clock you'll need this plug with a fair length of wire on it and just simply join from wire to wire - same colour combinations

they shud all be in the earlier looms!! hope this helps!!

That is an old set, but the wire from the -ve side of the coil needs to be taken through the tacho and then back to the dizzy, the wire which is in the loom is for the later signal type tacho's, this is a loop one.

thats so much easier an explaination then mine!! i'm always overcomplicated!!
