Next up is the shifter mounting. I needed a grommet to feed the cables through the firewall and I found a nice one made by K-tuned, but it's kind of expensive. It turns out there are a ton of knock-offs available on ebay, so I picked one up. The holes go straight through, but my cables need to make a very tight turn and they didn't fit very well. I made a new rubber insert with the holes angled about 45 degrees so the cables sit better.
First I trimmed my piece to the same size as the included one, then I built a wooden cage with an angled base to hold everything in place and keep the rubber from moving around while trying to cut it. I put it in the vise and drilled a hole with a 3/8" brad point bit, then I made a punch out of 7/16" steel tubing to cut it to final size. Results aren't perfect, but certainly good enough since it's not a part you can really see easily.
