I found the performance was much the same with or without the servo. The difference for me was braking with just my big toe, or having to use my whole foot

This.  Disc brakes small enough to fit a 10" wheel require far more line pressure than twin leading shoe drums to provide the equivalent retardation.  The 7" are even worse than the 7.5". Even the 8.4" discs needed a smaller bore front line master cylinder to increase line pressure per kg foot pressure, as provided by the yellow tag twin line master cylinder.when discs were fitted to 998s.

 

Personally, I prefer to fit a servo to reduce the load on my foot and keep the forces on the master cylinder and connections at the level the were designed for.
