3.2 Pinion Will Not Slide On Third Motion Shaft

Best Answer Aridgerunner , 08 May 2025 - 04:15 PM

Fixed it!

My brother had a very fine half round diamond file. Meant for filing diamonds. I applied the red dye to the gear and pushed it on as far it would go, which isn't much. Then I lightly, and I mean like removing just the red dye, and then tried fitting the gear again. After the repeat process I filed again and now it fits perfectly. It's a bit tighter than the 3.44 but I can now push it on by hand. And it does clear the bearing retainer.

Thanks again!

I'll do that using a red dye. Probably won't be until Thursday though. I have a big list of "honey do's" to get through today.

I just received a reply from Mini Spares. They say that all of the gears they have in stock are from a batch of Rover new/old stock that they purchased in 2018. They said that they did check some of their stock and could not find any looser gears.

So at this point I either force it on or find a way to make it fit a tad easier.

I'll keep ya posted.

I take it its not hitting the main bearing retainer. The taller final drives require a different retainer for clearance.
