Hi all,

I have just been tuned by AC Dodd, the difference is unreal. This guys knowledge is off the chart, I fitted an AEM AFR/Lambada gauge and we went from there.

There is no point me telling you what was done as tuning is very car specific.

GET AN AFR/LAMBADA GAUGE FITTED !!!

It would be interesting to have owners drive their minis and see what they think after just the ignition system has been fixed. That might make some people realise how important it is.

Hi,

I would love to get the Moop tuned by AC but never been able to find out when a session has been booked by anyone in or fairly near to where I live.

If he worked from his base I would happily drive down to Salisbury.

How do you use the AFR gauge to tune above idle? Are you just looking at it while driving and noting the AFR and RPM you're seeing?

I've done tuning on EFI with an ECU where you have data logs to look at afterwards, but not something like this.

You can get a good proportion of the tuning sorted on the driveway like AC does. Once you have the static tuning sorted you can go on the road and check the higher load points, note down what it’s doing and adjust accordingly

The best part about having the gauge is measuring what you have, making a change and seeing a measurable difference afterwards. It does take a bit of guesswork out of carb tuning (compared to things like the lift pin, vacuum gauges and using your ear)

Can I ask which AEM AFR/Lambada gauge you fitted, or are they all much of a muchness?

As far as I know they almost all use one of three Bosch sensors, LSU 4.2, 4.9 or ADV. Manufacturers then pair these up with a Bosch controller chip (CJ125) and put their own "interface" on top of it whether it be a gauge, screen or ECU tuning/monitoring tool.

The actual data out of it should be the same given the same sensor being used (the newer ones are supposedly increasingly accurate).

There's also a lot of clones out there of these sensors of varying quality/accuracy, unfortunately.

I've just installed the Innovate MTX-AL analogue gauge, primarily because I felt that a needle would be easier to read while driving rather than a flickering led display.

When you say changes, are you talking needle profiling Timmy? Or adjusting the mix screw? Daz.

Mixture screw is just that, for setting the idle mixture. After that it's a case of selecting different needed profiles and/or re-profiling needles and working out damper oils and damper modification if needed.

Fitted an aem one to a mini at work the other week, the colour scale around the perimeter of the gauge really helps monitoring when driving, though would recommend a passenger for the readings regardless of gauge, pretty good bit of kit and straight forward to setup.

It's another thing on the wish list for me.

This link is useful for fitting/placement. This one too.
