Has anyone successfully modified a single bolt front subframe where the toe board mounting points are extended so they can be bolted to the floor pans as well, ala twin bolt frames?
I've considered this so the frame is pulling on two planes rather than the single toe board mount but looking at the angle of the mounting web it's not a straight forward job.

This was a shell trolley I made recently so not totally related but similar mounting method.

If you make a spreader plate as above that also picks up the horizontal plane you could bolt a traditional solid mount on over the top or you could fabricate an ear to weld on and bolt directly to the subframe.

No, but always thought it could be a good idea.

I'm not sure what would be the best approach though

the usual method for reinforcing the rear mounts is to attach the spreader plates to the shell rather than the subframe as that's where the loads need to be distributed

I've been thinking about this as well due to solid mounting, but I've already painted my floor and anyway I didn't want to start welding on large plates that a future owner might not want

basically I was just going to modify the actual mounting brackets (usually with the rubber bits on but mine haven't) to have them sort of hook under the bottom seam exactly like the picture above, but not actually bolt through underneath, idea being that an impact force will push into the seam as well as just in the middle of the panel

may make absolutely no difference at all but at least no modifications to shell or subframe

Now there's an easier option! Modify the actual mount. 👍👍

I’ve pondered this before - if the replacement solid mounts available were made so they wrapped under with an additional fixing then I think it would largely eliminated toe-board cracking. The users would just need to drill one hole, which they’d even have a guide for.

I even asked back in the day one of the leading purveyors of parts whether this could be put to their suppliers, but the thought was there’d be no call for it.

I promised myself that I’d look into it one day, when free time was more plentiful. Problem is that still years away!

Well shortly, when I get the shell on the spit and spun over I'll be making some. I'll report back.....unless someone has already done it. 😁

I would say the removable subframe mounts on later cars make it heaps easier changing the steering rack, etc....

Ok, car on the spit now so just having a quick offer up of the solid mounts before I extend them.
Just to make sure before I weld bits on.....
Is this the correct way the mounting goes?
Rookie question I know but can't really get a clear picture from the web and my subframe is in the most totally inaccessible place possible at the moment to offer up.
Also the car is upside down which is throwing me a touch 😬
