Not that a Mini steering column will have to cope with anything like as much force.

Err mini drive shaft. Controlled in two axis as needed with 2 UJs
again you don’t need a second bearing on the steering. It is fully constrained on one axis. (Rack pinion. And supported column shaft. Can not move anywhere but round.

Yeah the pot joint equates to the rack splines & the dash mounting bracket to the CV joint.
To extend the analogy: the pot joint runs inside the end cover bush because it will be equivalent to your added Escort UJ when the diff output shaft equates to the bit from rack to the cruciform of the UJ.
It's not much, but it is potentially more than not realigning the rack (U bolts) when fitting a lowering bracket to the original setup.
