Hi. I've just installed a new heritage rear wheelarchh front closing panel, welding along the companion bin, wheelarch tub and rear quarter panel. There is quite a big gap between the panel and the heelboard does anyone know if this should be forced shut and welded up or just closed out with seam sealer ( which will also run along the top of the heelboard and closing panel?

Thanks for the tip on photos. Hopefully this connects to the picture https://ibb.co/Rpwf5TqR. Its the gap between the end of the heelboard and the closing pnael that's bothering me.

on mine I got them to be flat together with no gap, and I welded that join, but the difference being I cut the rot out of the closing panel and fabricated a replacement piece to fit rather than trying to fit a full new piece

 

have you confirmed the subframe bolts are positioned correctly (trial fit subframe or use jig) before you get any further in, that's more important than whether or not the outer panel needs pulling in slightly

I did write a reply with details but this bloody Gateway issue put the mockers on that, so lets try again.

 

So is your quarter panel fitted?? if not then offer it up. This will help to dictate how much of a gap you will have. There will be one but like i did on my clubby once i was happy with quarter panel fit i then tweaked the gap as much as possible then welded it up. Yes you could fill it with sealant but its a gap filled with sealant and a posssible water trap.

 

The complete back end of my car has been replaced inculding the full heelboard. This gave me a degree of flexibility with moving things and i always trial fitted, tweaked, trial fitted before final welding.
