I am about to try and reduce my door gaps when welding a rod onto the door edge is it continuously welded or just stitched ie every half inch then filled over and profiled . Thanks

Fitting doors can be a bit of a mission, especially if it’s your first time doing it! Just take your time lining everything up. Hinges and wiring can be somewhat challenging. Having an extra pair of hands really helps, too. Once it’s on, make sure the gaps are even and the door shuts smoothly before tightening everything up. It’s a satisfying job once you get it right!

I have not done that for many years, but it is a good fix when the door gaps are excessive.

I welded it for its full length, doing a bit at a time to avoid it overheating and distorting. Then I linished back the welds and added a kiss of filler to get it right.

I guess you could stitch it, say 1/2" of weld and a 1" gap, or something similar.

Good luck with this.

Pound coin rule for me....

Quid at the top gap, quid at the bottom gap and work to that rule.

Time now and you will be chuffed for the rest of your ownership.

I stitched mine on Paddy then fully welded a couple of inches then moved on. HOWEVER i was using Frosts Cold Front to minimise distortion. I did end up with a little distortion but i should have been more patient. And yes pound gaps all round. I even did this to the boot lid which i had reskinned as well. Dont leave any of it unwelded, it will crack at somepoint unless you lead load.

OTT but hey its my car and its WHAT I WANTED to do.

Front of the door with A panel and wings pinned in place. I had to rework the replacement A post return as well to get the A panel to fit nicely.

Good job, well done..

But are you happy with the result?

Are you referring to my post or the OP?? If my post then you will have seen the finished painted results in my signature.
