I use brake and clutch cleaner for just about everything. Not the aerosols but a five litre container off eBay for about £15 and a pump up spray bottle.

I'm looking to give the old girl a bit of a refresh mainly on the bulkhead, what is the best stuff to get rid of the general grunge and oil mist so I can repaint it? It will only be a brush paint job, nothing spectacular needed as it will have sound deadening on it anyway.

Cheers

same here but note the really cheap pump'n'spray bottles seem to have melty seals when using brake cleaner, we had a couple fail on us before changing brand and ok since.  wish I could tell you what brand but there's nothing written on it

maybe just don't get a really cheap one

Have found that Spray 9 works the best on grease. After Spray 9 I will finish cleaning with foam window cleaner. Unlike brake cleaner, the Spray 9 will stay on the panel and can be worked with a brass or nylon brush to get the tough spots clean.
