I am replacing floor pan and will replace the inner sill
Portion that comes with the panel. After cutting out the inner sill I came across the sill reinforcement bracket. Is it necessary to retain this? Feels like it doesn’t add much. Watching videos of others doing the exact same repair I can’t seem to find a good shot of them plug welding to it. Seems like it’s just cut off. Appreciate any info

They put it in so there must have been a reason? The door post is fairly heavily loaded with the door and the crossmember ends and it adds triangulation.Just my opinion.Steve..

agree, if it was there before, put one back in.  minis are not strong shells as they are let alone taking anything away in a critical place like that

It was there as part of the slinging bracket assy. Does it play a part in adding strength, yup for that particular reason. But is it now needed, well thats a question for deabte.

I bin mine off along with the external slinging brackets. Stops the unwary from using then a jacking point. As an aside to this i still keep the internal jacking bracket as i still use the OE jacking point.

Just to add, its held in place with just a couple of spot welds so exactly how much strength does it add??

The Slinger Brackets linked below, that your Minispares 'Sill Reinforcement Slinger Bracket' link above also refers to says: "only purpose was for building/moving/ storing and preparation of cars at the factory to sit them on...Also acted as a stiffener between the inner and outer sills which is why the factory fitted them to stop damage."

Slinging Bracket Rear:-

Slinging Bracket Front:-

Many people remove the Slinger Brackets during sill replacement or restoration (unless originalty is important) as they are not used after the factory assembly lines....but are often confused by tyre fitters as trolley jacking points which usually bends them and/or damages the floorpan. I personally doubt the sill reinforcement bracket does much after the factory assembly use of the Slinger Brackets has finished.....although it might help a little if, as said above, a tyre fitter uses a trolley jack on the slinger bracket below it!

That’s my thoughts after detaching the one side it wiggles pretty freely. Thanks for the insight
