Hi all,

If anyone still reads this section - I acquired an unfinished early Zcars Busa mini which I am prepping for IVA - does anyone know what thickness aluminium Zcars used for the firewall. I can't find any specifics in the IVA blurb. I was thinking 2mm sheet would suffice?

Also any suggestions on collapsible steering columns - the "wearediminutive.com" setup looks elegant but I can't make out what components they used?

Cheers

It was after was a saloon car fire in the mid 1960s, that the RAC immediately introduced a "Fire-wall" which became mandatory for club racing in the UK.  The scrutineers demanded that "Fire-Gaps" were filled with 1/16" steel if the car was of predominately steel construction.  Exotic cars with more than 25% aluminium, could use 10 gauge (Just over 1/8")  aluminium.

I remember at Brands Hatch, a furious row when a scrutineer refused to pass a car because there was no mention in the emergency regulation about Fibreglass construction.

There must be way more variables

If you're not a chief constable, Google's AI says Locost builders use 1/8" ally plate & think IVA testers must see plenty of them.  Seems like overkill to me, unless it's load bearing. 1mm of ally was good enough to shoot rapids in before canoeists discovered HDPE
