Sykes Code Reader

Just obtained a ACR 4 code reader with a few pods (1,2 and 4) plus a few cables.
When trying to plug into my 2000 mpi I am getting error 1 on the ACR 4.
I have tried the pod 4 and the cable number 302124
Any idea why error 1 keeps getting displayed. Is this a code reader issue or an ecu issue?
Sadly don’t have another car to try this on

I believe you need pod 3 or 5 for the MPi, but I would need to verify. There is a thread on here that lists the correct pods.
Rover Pod 1 will work with the SPi Mini and Rover Pod 3 will work with both SPi &MPi. SP now makes an MAP(Multi Application Pod).
There are other pods as well, but these are the ones I have.

i have a ACR4 and rover pod 4 and i use 3021 4000 cable, from new!!! for my mini MPI and S1.
but i also have ikeys pod which seems to require the 30214600 cable to work.
I think the 30214600 cable i generic and i think should be ok. i have used the 30214600 cable in on a renault van with the correct pod.

where in the connection process do you get an error 1 ?, never seen that before, it just beeps and goes back to the start if it has problems.

Interested in this as fancy getting gone but none seam to be priced according to my budget.
Another option to look for is an Omitec Omiscan. Omitec were who made the dealer diagnostic equipment after crypton.

I have only worked with the earlier pods and the later MAP versions.
Does Pod 4 allow you to select Rover then Mini?
Or are you getting the etror before any menus are presented?

On my last mpi mini I had the Rover Pod 3. But this one I purchased off eBay as it said Rover Pod 4 was compatible.
I get error 1 as soon as it’s connected to the diagnostic port. Does not give me any options or menus. I have two cables that claim to work. I will post both codes when I get home.
I also have a quick program pod. It lets me select MPI mini by then fails to connect/communicate.
Does anyone have a pod 3 I could borrow? I’m not sure if it’s the Diagnostic Port that is the issue, the ECU or the code reader/pod/cable.

Looking online 302124 should work. There are some on eBay complete with the Rover Pod v3

Work
I have ordered a usb mems2j cable to be used with Andrew Revills software. That way it’s a cheaper way to see if my port and ecu are ok. And if so I can keep looking for a pod 3 or fix the communication fault.

Andrew's software works well. It may have a few quirks and it capable of displaying way more information than was ever used in the MEMS2J implementation for the MPi Mini.
There have been communication issues with the SP ACR tools/cables and the Rover mini, usually disconnecting after an initial connection.

If I can get the Idle Air Valve and throttle set then I will have a spi ACR for sale.

Late to the party - apologies...
Error 1 sounds like an ACR 4 /Pod issue. The best way to determine is to power it up without car connection (I can probably lend you a Sykes Pickavant power supply to test this).
Lots of the lead numbers look similar....
302124 is a very old lead and isn't AFAIK the same as 30212400 which is to J1962 spec (VAG/GM/Peugeot/Citroen/Rover).
Rover Specific Lead is 3021400 and is a bit of a hit and a miss as Rover themselves didn't properly implement the protocol in particular with the grounds in pins 4 & 5
302124600 is the ISO 1941 spec there is also a V2 branded version. This is the one listed in the last iteration of the Vehicle Lists for Mini MPi work
Pods 4 & 5 (30353200 Rover V4 covers SPi and MPi including airbag & 30358500 V5 likewise)
All the other stuff is in the pinned post https://www.theminif...e-reader/page-8
When working on MPis the issue is usually as Terry says maintaining a stable connection (often the plug in the car is poorly connected /grounded)
