Hello Mini Friends,

Been an awful last 12 months after getting the car back from body work restoration and the car idle for 3 years. It has spent more time on the back of a trailer this year rather than on the road. Constant electrical issues with engine cutting out when hot then starting again when cooled down. Engine electrics been cleaned up a lot and when I keep thinking it's solved it goes again. Currently cranking and no start. Last time it went smoke coming out of clutch/flywheel housing so hoping the final thing to fix is the Crank Sensor.

Picture attached (hopefully) of it and in a tight space and cannot get anything to grip the nut/hex screw as it's rounded and flat on top. I'm looking at more tools to make a bad situation worse but don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions welcome.

Thank you all.

Last resort if the new one is the same.Unplug it and break up the plastic and mole grips.Try hammering on a slightly smaller socket.Steve..

Have you taken the grille off? That will help access. A hex socket and a decent length extension bar would help to turn it without levering the head at odd angles

... You could unbolt the starter motor, it's only 2 bolts

If smoke was coming out, you've got a problem which isn't the crank sensor.
