Hi all. I'm wanting to buy a new set of manifold studs, and there are choices. Mini spares have a stainless steel set with nuts and washers. Is stainless actually classed as an upgrade? If not, any recommendations?

Thanks, Daz.

Personally I prefer to use the deep brass nuts used in conjunction with the correct thickness washer.

The washers supplied in some of the stud kits are too thin and not really, in my oppinion, fit for purpose.

The brass nut can be used with the standard steel stud and being a bit longer than a standard nut are easier to fit, cover more of the stud thread, eliminating some of the corosion on the stud and will not corrode.

They do not like being over tightened, I come across distorfed nuts through over tightening, correctly tourqued they will not slacken.

The Swiftune offering is much better, decent ARP washers and multipoint nuts. https://www.swiftune...stud-kit-2.html

If you have your original studs use those, they've worked for 60 years, along with brass nuts. I tend to make my own nuts just so I can make them the length I want. The so called " upgrades " seem to be fixing a problem that really doesn't exist, if you are careful.

Thanks Shooter. I've stripped the head prior to taking it somewhere for some work. The stud nearest the radiator has always looked a bit suspect so I thought as they're all out now was a good time to change them. As you've pointed out the originals have been decent enough up until now so I don't want to replace them with some modern crap. The ARP look blinking but too pricey. I just wondered if there was anything new available of decent quality. Daz.

For 82 groats you would think they would include the correct washers, and if I'm honest a couple of crisp £20.00 notes tucked into the package for good measure.

I replaced the nuts and studs with bolts, makes removing the manifold a lot easier - for replacing the gasket for example.
