Max Verstappen ‘beyond frustrated’ at new era of F1....
"Verstappen has been arguably the most vocal, and certainly the most high-profile, critic of the new era of hybrid-electric power units, which require drivers to “harvest” energy by purposely slowing into corners, which they can then use to power past one another using “boost” and “overtake” buttons.
The two grands prix so far this year, in Australia and China, have featured hundreds of overtakes. But Verstappen has dismissed the stye of racing as akin to “Mario Kart” and described it as “Formula E on steroids”, saying anyone who enjoys it “does not understand racing”.
Verstappen is far from alone. Many fans, like him, are furious that drivers can no longer go flat-out in qualifying, having to lift and coast to harvest energy, even on push laps. Nor do they consider the overtaking to be real.
This year’s Japanese Grand Prix, meanwhile, has been controversial because the energy-starved engines cannot keep deploying full electric power for long enough on the longest Suzuka straights and the recharging demands mean “superclipping” – where the car harvests energy for its battery while still at full throttle – kicks in as well. This means speed reductions of up to 50kmh on high-speed corners such as 130R, one of the most iconic in the sport."

Others don't seem that happy too...

Suzuka challenge 'gone' as F1 drivers are 'handcuffed' :-

F1 should all be the same car(allocated to them 30 mini before the race)

That way the talent is all in the driver.. not the technical team. The strategy team, nor the media team...

F1 drivers demand change after Oliver Bearman’s ‘scary’ 190mph crash at Japanese GP.
"Bearman and Colapinto had suddenly found themselves going at completely different speeds at the same part of the track because of the way the new 2026 cars harvest power for their batteries. Haas said that Bearman was clocked at 308kph (191mph) just prior to the incident, with Colapinto travelling at around 260kph (161mph), a closing speed of some 48kph (40mph). As a group we’ve warned the FIA what can happen and this has been a really unfortunate result of the massive delta speed that we’ve never seen before in F1 until these new regulations."
McLaren’s Lando Norris warned that drivers were going to “fly over fences and do a lot of damage” unless the FIA made changes to mitigate against these sorts of closing speeds. “Depending on what drivers do, you can have 30, 40, 50kph [closing] speeds,” he said. “And when someone hits another driver at that speed you are going to fly, and go over the fence, and do a lot of damage to yourself and maybe to others. And that is a pretty horrible thing to think about.”
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso said overtaking in F1 these days was almost “accidental”. “Suddenly you find yourself with a higher battery than the car in front, and you either crash into them or you overtake them. It’s an evasive manoeuvre, not an overtake,” he said, before Bearman’s accident had occurred.
Sainz said after the race. “I was surprised when they said, ‘No, we will sort out the qualifying and leave the racing alone because it’s exciting’. As drivers, we were warning them the problem wasn’t just qualifying. Here we’re lucky there was an escape road. Now imagine going to Baku, or Singapore, or Vegas [all street circuits], and having these kinds of closing speeds next to the walls."

It is a bit mario kart though isn't it, 'push this boost button to go faster'

no I lost interest in F1 years ago, as above I don't feel like it's really racer vs racer.. Feels more like 'who's got the best car this year' and 'how many engines have they used' and silly little politics over points and stuff

that's why I don't really take any interest in the points or standings, I 'll just occasionally watch half hour of it here or there just for the noise and speed, a couple of on-board views and a few overtakes if there even are any, yep F1 still exists, change channel

100%

Motogp or superbikes is far better. Much closer racing. They don't *******. The rules are less PC.
On Saturday the winner of the motogp sprint race cocked up a wheelie at 120mph after the chequered flag and crashed. He was fine. In F1 he would have been fined and points on a licence blah blah blah.
If you cant overtake without changing the rules for the car behind how's that a race

Indeed they have. And Gunther is now a team boss
The whisperings in the paddock are they aren't happy with their purchase price

Max is complaining because he doesn't like it.the others are complaining because it's dangerous.

They are complaining because the cars are too unpredictable, imagine pressing your throttle to a certain point and if your battery is charged you get far more throttle then the last time, why Piastri binned it in Adelaide.the battery element if there to get manufacturers interested and bring in revenue, i'm a massive f1 fan and geek but hate that you cannot follow the race, even the drivers admit they don't always know what will happen so kinda agree unsafe. leave battery cars to formula E. motor racing never is or should be totally safe (thank god we're not in the old days where it was 'normal' for 2 drivers a year to die) but you should be able to trust your machine, and drivers losing control or getting injured or worse is not sport.

bike racing is closer as no aero for downforce but see what happens when liberty come in and tweak to make it more profitable, time will tell
