Hi All,

Some help is badly required.............

I have a 1996 SPi Minin Cooper which I have recently had extensively restored. I have refitted the engine and had spark and the engine fired with a spray of easy start in the manifold. The immobilizer light in the dash was also working.

After connecting all the remaining electrics I now have no spark and my ECU does not appear to be talking to the immobilizer as the red light in the dash has stopped working.

I have tested and found the following……..

Coil / Ignition:

Inertia switch checked and working ok.

Fuel pump fires for 3 seconds when on the first turn of the key.

Crank position sensor appears to be working ok – if reconnected when ignition is on, relay pack on brake servo clicks.

I have power to both sides of the coil – should there be power to the white and black wire on the negative side of the coil? Coil changed/HT Leads and no difference

Immobilizer:

I have had the immobilizer & ECU checked by Technozen (All working fine) and had new fobs made.

I have power to one wire on the red immobilizer light.

I can hear the immobilizer clicking when the button is pushed.

I have checked, cleaned and ensured a good connection all earth points in the engine bay with no improvement.

I am completely stumped and do not know where to check next. My gut is telling me an electrical fault  but I have no idea where to check next. If anyone could anyone point me in the direction of where/what to check next?

Many Thanks

V

Your discription of the immobilizer light working/not working would appear backwards.

when the red light is on the immobilizer is on and the car will not start.

When the red light is off the engine should start.

Update..........

Today I removed the injector manifold and rechecked all wiring and earths in the engine bay. Before refitting the manifold I cranked the engine and had spark. After refitting the manifold and connecting all the wiring I again had no spark.

All wiring was disconnected and again had spark and the car fires with a shot of easy start.

As I reconnected each wiring plug I have isolated the problem to the injector plug - when it is connected I have no spark.

I still have no light at the LED in the dash but I can hear it click when the fob is pushed.

Anyone any ideas???

Thanks again

V

Does the car have a full cut off switch on the right near the bulk head. These are sensitive and can need reset after even a reasonable sized pot hole.

Trust you have checked the plugs are clean (are these getting wet with fuel?) Are all connections are clean.

Also is the fuel new or old?

Are the fuel pipes all compatible with the new fuels available as the rubber pipes collapse internally due to additives. Could these be restricting fuel flow?

Further update!!!!!!

SOOOOO........ I have managed to get the car to spark when the injector is plugged out......................

Thinking to possible causes of the problem When the engine was out I changed the clutch but reused the original Flywheel... could this cause a problem with the crank position sensor???

Thanks

V
