Hello to all,
I am new to this forum and find it really interesting.
I am hoping that somebody with far more knowledge than myself can help me. I have a 1964 850 Moke to restore. It was sent to South Africa as a knocked down kit and built there. It was imported three years a go and sold to me last year and as such I have no previous history. It has a valid V5 stating it is 848cc. As advised by a friend I have dismantled the main engine, head and gearbox with a view to restore or replace. And here is where I need some help as when cleaning the cylinder head I saw the casting number. I had previously, while surfing for parts and prices, found an excellent blog on the Minispares web site, by Keith Dodd, tabulating the history and differences of the A series heads over the years. It is very comprehensive and when I found my casting number of 12G295 it says it is from a 998 Mini Cooper or MG1100! I then thought I should look more closely at the engine, no.99H353EH108231, to find its history. Again Keith Dodd has a blog relating to engine numbers and it implies that it is a mini 998. I am hoping that other members can help me or point me in the right direction to find out the definitive situation of this engine. I am assuming I will need the exact specification to get the correct internal parts. Thank you in advance with fingers crossed.
Thanks
Andy
