Reprogramming A Key Fob.

Best Answer Quinlan minor , 03 May 2026 - 07:31 PM

From the Handbook:

"1) Carefully prise the handset apart, start from the keyring end using a small coin or screwdriver. Avoid damaging the seal between the two halves of the case and DO NOT allow any dirt or moisture to get inside the handset.

2) Slide the battery out of its clip, taking care to avoid touching the circuit board or the contact surfaces of the clip.

3) Press and hold each button in turn for at least five seconds to drain any residual power from the handset.

4) Fit the new battery, ensuring that the correct polarity is maintained (positive '+' side facing up). Finger marks will adversely affect battery life; avoid touching the flat surfaces of the battery or wipe them clean before fitting.

5) Reassemble the two halves of the handset.

6) Unlock the car, then press the handset button at least four times to resynchronise the handset to the car."

The handset is now ready for use.

Failing that, talk to Paul at Technozen

He'll see you right.

Any tips on how to do this for a Mini Cooper Sport registered in 2000. Did the obvious and changed the battery but think its a programming issue. Worst case scenario is I need a new fob.

I had a friend who's SPI immobilizer had a problem and the above sorted it. I also used him to repair my SCU in an MGZR I once had. Unfortunately I can't offer any other tips. Good luck.
