Hi

I have a NOS Minispeed CA4 (544 profile) camshaft and having a look at it today noticed that on three of the lobes there is a slight flat where it appears that the cam was not fully 'cleaned up' when being reprofiled.

Has anyone had experience with this before?  The flats are only slight, but if it is going to bite me later on I'd rather just replace the cam now. On the other hand, I'm guessing the cam passed quality control when it was manufactured and that I may be worrying for no reason.

Thoughts?

Send the pictures and text to Delta Camshaft in Tacoma, WA.  I've used them a lot to re-profile A Series engine camshafts, they are experts in the field and can give the advice that you need.

A bit late on the scene, and certainly no expert , but my thoughts none the less.

Most thorough way is to put it on a Cam DR   - but I do not think the originals had flat spots - and certainly not just on three lobes.  Total lift would be affected - but I doubt you would feel it , More of a concern is what impact it may have on the lifters over time ( especially if they are not faced properly. - if the cam is based on the 544 - it is a fairly high revving 'aggressive cam' -  so I would think about its use if on a road engine.

Better call them first.  As stated by the owner, the increase in crime, graffiti and taxes has Delta Camshaft packing up and moving to Arizona.

Thanks everyone.

I think the opinions have confirmed what I was thinking myself, I'm not going to run it. It can go into my "not good enough to run, but can't bring myself to put it in the trash pile'!

Don't toss it, keep and have it re-ground to a profile suited to your style of driving.
