I'd just weld the holes in, yeah.   Probably same for the ones in the crossmember, if nothing else you don't want yet another way for water to get into the insides

Well I have picked myself up the proper dated subframe, that I will rebuild. All complete with bottom, top arms, tie rods and top bolts. Bargain for £40

decent price that!  might be worth having a local ring-around and seeing how much to get it sandblasted, my local did it for like £30 I think (or was it £75 for both frames.... something like that)  left unfinished though

 

you could get it powder-coated, or just paint it, I did mine with red oxide primer and black chassis paint but others might have better ideas.  ideal time to do it now, assuming you're going to strip it all down and replace the rubber bits, check the pins in the top arms, etc

There is a shot blaster down the road, who I have used in the past. I am planning on going your route, with the painting and replacing all bushes and top arms and probably add some hi los, for good measure. I only want to do it once, then get on with building my 1380 to drop in it.
