I know this is a long shot.

I have a 1987 mini with the original locking gas cap.     It only has 1 key.    I have tried to duplicate it with no luck.     Anyone know where I can get an extra key?   Or even a key blank would be ok.

The number on the key is J042.

I guess if I had to, I could just get a new locking cap with 2 keys.    Or get rid of the lock completely.

Any ideas?

Oh, by the way, I am located in the USA.

Surely a key cutting place or a locksmith could provide a spare key from the one you have?

Like this?

https://www.codedkey...j-j-series-keys

or

https://www.keytrade...-J001-J224.html

But any decent key cutting service should be able to provide (or order*) a matching blank and cut it.

*often Mini key blank are somewhat special, especially ignition keys blanks are rarely in stock over here [germany]...

There are a few good classic car key businesses on eBay. They might be able to match your key number.

I replaced my petrol cap keys here:

I don't know if it helps though with you living in the US.

It does appear that they ship world wide.

In the US, I've used triple-c.com for coded and blank keys. He's very knowledgeable and helpful.
