Can anyone recommend where I can access a permanent live in the dash or switch area to save having to run the wire back to the fuse box?

Ignition or light switches. Neither are fuse protected, so not for 2kw fan heater.

A purple wire is a much better idea depending on what you are fitting. The purple wires are fused.

Personally I would run a new fused spur from the solenoid, hardly any work really and you could also fit a new accessory fuse box at the same time.Just me,Steve,

What year is the Mini and what are you trying to power?

Post '92 Minis have a purple for radio and clock.

All Minis have Brown to Light switch and Ignition switch but these are high power unfused cables and best left alone.

Better to take a feed from Purple at the fuse board.

interior light is another option, purple(?) wire goes up the left side A pillar.  depending what for though I'd run a new cable as well, to make sure the wire is new, and correctly rated
