With the gearbox in neutral the knuckles should be in a straight line when viewed from above and from behind.
Thanks! It was my concusion too as we want the same angular movement in all 4 gear from neutral.
This is the best I can achieve with the gear lever approx at the middle

For neutral you mean the postion between 1st and 2nd ?
I think I'm used to first gear being left and forward. Here it seems just forward needed 
Anyway now it is a little bit better, I will see what happens on a test drive tomorrow.

And the next source of joy is the fuel pump
I've noticed that the bottom of the gasket soaked with oil....
The plastic spacer is flat, but not the pump housing
